WELCOME TO AFYA YETU INITIATIVE

We are a Kenyan NGO registered in year 2006 and started off  implementing the Community Based Health Financing (CBHF) programme in year 2010 as a predecessor to the Centre for International Development & Research (CIDR)-France. With financial support from Bread for the World, – protestant church development service, Germany, our project work covers fourty (40) wards spread across Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Murang’a counties. Afya Yetu’s main offices are located in Nyeri town and field offices in Karatina and Kanjama towns. The organization is governed by a 6 -member board of management and a project team of eight (8)  led by the Programme Coordinator.

WHAT WE DO?

We implement the Community Based Healthcare Financing (CBHF) Programme, promoting community health insurance and providing technical support and training to community leaders. Additionally, our Community-led Accountability and Governance in Health (C-LAG) project enhances citizen participation in health planning and improves health service delivery through various training and advocacy activities.

Activities
  • Promotion of Community based healthcare Insurance
  • Technical support to communities in determining benefit packages
  • Methodological support in designing of insurance schemes
  • Empowerment and training of community leaders in various related modules
  • Networking with other actors in the health sector
  • Lobbying and advocacy for community health financing at local and national levels

Activities
a) Enhancing of citizen participation and advocacy in government’s planning, budgeting and delivery of health related social programmes.
  • Training community leaders on principles and guidelines for citizen/public participation during the county planning & budgeting process
  • Training community leaders and health workers on the county budgeting process and their role in advocacy for increased health budgets
  • Supporting the trained leaders in drawing memoranda/make submissions during/in public participation forums, particularly related to health projects
